According to
Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government or India's notification No.
SO-319 (E) dated 10.4.1997, public Hearing is mandatory for all
the major projects seeking an Environment Clearance under the Environment
Impact Assessment Notification-1994. "District Level Committee" for Public
Hearing has been constituted by the Forests & Environment Department. The
District Collector or District Development Officer shall chair the
committee. The regional officer of the Gujarat Pollution Control Board shall
be Member Secretary of teh committee and the members includes officials and
non-officials. The notice for date and and place of the Public hearing shall
be published in local dailies / newspapers. Local people could express their
views, comments, problems and suggestions before the committee.
