Gujarat Department of Forests
and Environment (GDFE) has assigned the task of conduction of Cleaner
Production (CP) Clinics to National Cleaner Production Centre (NCPC), New
Delhi, under the project ‘Creation of Demand and Strengthening of Capacity
Building on Cleaner Production’.
The overall objective of the
proposed activities to be undertaken in the phase-II of Cleaner Production
(CP) capacity building programme is to create a market based demand for CP
services and to strengthen the supply situation for CP and related services.
The demand for the CP will be
built up by educating the industries on benefits of CP (creating awareness)
and also enthusiasing the industries by demonstrating Cleaner Production
undertaken in different industries. Strengthening of the capacity in local
institutions, which would continue to provide services to the industries,
was other objective, which would be fulfilled by carrying out the following
activities :
-
Conduction of CP clinics
(Awareness Programmes)
It is proposed to trigger demand for CP and related services through
conducting series of CP clinics (one-day awareness programmes) for top
management personals. For wider coverage of industries in the state, it is
proposed to conduct 36 clinics in major industrial estates in the area of
Gujarat.
-
Strengthening of Capacity
building in selected institutions.
The overall objective of the activities to be undertaken in this area is
to create a basic capacity level, which would be self-sustaining, to
undertake Cleaner Production Assessment and training for industries in
Gujarat. This requires that a certain critical mass of individuals be
developed both through theoretical inputs and practical on-the-job
training. These individuals should belong to selected institutions, which
would then continue to provide these services to the industries.
ACHIEVEMENT

imparted to Eight institutions / Industries at Ahmedabad program during
25-29,June-01 and the Cleaner Production Assessment in the selected
industries is going on. It is expected that the Cleaner Production
Assessment will be completed by mid February-2002.
Total 36 awareness programmes on Cleaner Production are proposed to be
organized in major industrial area of the state. Till now

at various industrial places for the top management of SMEs. Under this

objectives and techniques of
Cleaner Production were covered.
In addition, the information on Cleaner Production Assessment case studies
