ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT CAPACITY BUILDING TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROJECT ( EMCB-TAP)
 


 

 

Introduction


The project at national level titled “Environmental Management Capacity Building Technical Assistance Project (EMCB-TAP)” is being implemented with the assistance of the World Bank. The specific objective of the project is to enhance environmental management capacity in selected areas of environmental management. An important area so identified for such capacity building relates to industrial pollution abatement in the State. Considering the States stride in industrialization, the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MOEF) and World Bank in consultation with the Govt. of Gujarat have undertaken the task of Environmental Management through Cleaner Production (CP). Under this project the Forests and Environment Department has taken the initiative to promote the CP through training and demonstration projects in the industries under the Institutional Strengthening (IS) sub component. The objective of the IS component is to increase the capacity of Government officials, Institutions, consultants and industries for the application of cleaner production through training, demonstration projects and improving compliance monitoring. The specific goals of this component are to train the institutions / consultants and conducting demonstration projects in the industries. To monitor the project activities a separate Project Implementation Cell (PIC) is established to coordinate with the MoEF, World Bank, Industry associations, institutions and consultants in the state.
